Men and Skincare: A Simple Starting Point

Skin doesn't check your gender before it gets dry, oily or irritated. Here's a genuinely simple place to start — no ten-step nonsense.

Skincare has picked up a reputation for being complicated, expensive and somehow "not for men". None of that is true. Skin is skin, and the fundamentals are the same for everyone. If you want healthier, more comfortable skin without the fuss, you can get most of the way there with three steps and a bit of consistency.

The three-step routine

You really don't need a shelf full of products. Master these three and you've covered the essentials that matter most.

  • Cleanse morning and night with a gentle face wash
  • Moisturise to keep skin comfortable and balanced
  • Wear sunscreen every morning — the best anti-aging step there is
  • That's it; add extras later only if you want to

Shaving without the irritation

For a lot of men, shaving is the real source of skin grief — razor burn, ingrown hairs and tightness. A few small changes make a big difference.

  • Shave after a warm shower when hair is softer
  • Use a fresh, sharp blade and go with the grain
  • Don't press hard; let the razor do the work
  • Follow with a soothing, fragrance-free moisturiser
Sunscreen is not optional

If you only adopt one new habit, make it daily sunscreen. It does more for how your skin ages than any serum, and it takes about ten seconds.

When to add more

Once the basics are second nature, you can layer in targeted extras — but only if there's a reason to. Chasing trends rarely helps.

  • An eye product if that's a concern for you
  • A retinoid at night for longer-term skin health
  • A professional facial now and then for a proper reset

Keep it simple, keep it consistent, and let the results build quietly. Good skincare is one of the least complicated forms of self-maintenance there is.
